Belvedere Hotel,

20 for 20

20 fun facts, one for each of Belvedere’s seminal birthdays. Let the countdown begin!

1. 50 Shades of White
The Belvedere jumped on the White Party bandwagon in August 1999, at a birthday bash for co-owner Tasos Ioannidis, continuing the tradition for the next 8 years.

2. Pierros le Fou
Did you know the building housing Matsuhisa restaurant was once the holiday home of flamboyant socialite Pierro Aversa? Seeing endless possibilities where others only saw sea and sun, he opened legendary bar Pierros in 1970. Needless to say, Mykonos has never been the same.

3. Absolutely Fabulous
The first guest to set his stylish foot on the revamped Belvedere in 2007 was none other than Jean Paul Gaultier, making the extensive renovations worth every single drop of sweat.

4. Figures Speak Louder Than Words
The average black cod consumption at Matsuhisa is north of 2 tons, washed down with more than 10.000 Martinis a year. Cheers!

5. Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend
Globetrotting jewelry designer Eugenie Niarchos chose the Belvedere Hotel to open her first ever Venyx jewelry store. Coincidence? We think not!

6. It Takes Two
You know that magical feeling when someone anticipates your every need before the thought is even fully formed in your head? That’s because the staff-to-guest ratio at the Belvedere is 2:1.

7. The Dutch Touch
DJ Hans Havenaar has been the resident groove master for the past decade, igniting parties at the drop of a track! No hat necessary.

8. Bon Appétit
The sultry island wind does wonders for the appetite and nobody knows it best than Matsuhisa Mykonos, the only open-air Nobu restaurant in the world, featuring an outdoors sushi bar.

9. Under Cover
Ever wonder where Matt Damon and the rest of “The Bourne Identity” cast spent the winter while shooting on Mykonos? Well, you just found out!

10. Swimsuit Ready
Who said an island residence doesn’t need a pool? Breaking local taboos, the original Belvedere villa – built in the 60s – was the first property to feature a private pool on Mykonos.
