A Century of Togetherness: The Belvedere Hotel Mykonos Unveils Its New Chapter

As the holiday season fills the air with warmth and joy, we at the Belvedere Hotel Mykonos find ourselves reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve shared with you over the past 100 years. This year, we celebrate not only the arrival of a New Year but also a significant milestone in our story—a century of cherished memories, meaningful connections, and Mykonian hospitality.

Honoring the Past: A Legacy of Hospitality

The story of the Belvedere Hotel is steeped in history and cultural richness. It all began in the 1920s, when the Campanis-Ioannidis family opened their hearts and home at Villa Stoupa, their summer residence, to visitors from around the world. Nestled amidst the dazzling beauty of Mykonos, Villa Stoupa quickly gained a reputation as a serene oasis.

In 1969, Sofia Ioannidou-Campanis began renting out the villa, marking the start of a new era. Just a year later, Italian-American painter and bon vivant Piero Aversa made it his summer sanctuary. Aversa brought with him a vibrant energy, hosting lavish dinners and exuberant gatherings that attracted a glittering array of socialites, artists, and politicians. This period, characterized by artistic expression and cultural fusion, left an indelible mark on Mykonos and paved the way for Villa Stoupa’s transformation into something extraordinary.

In 1995, Villa Stoupa was reborn as the Belvedere Hotel, blending its glamorous history with the allure of contemporary luxury. Guided by the Ioannidis family’s deep connection to Mykonos, the Belvedere evolved into an icon of modern hospitality while staying true to its roots.

Anchored in Family Values

The Ioannidis-Campanis family, integral to Mykonos for decades, has carried forward a vision rooted in authenticity, hospitality, and a deep respect for the island’s culture. Their ethos of creating unforgettable moments continues to define the Belvedere experience today. Every detail, from our world-class cuisine to our bespoke accommodations, reflects a dedication to celebrating the essence of Mykonos.

Celebrating the Present: The Seahorse Symbol

This year, we proudly introduce our new emblem featuring two seahorses, a meaningful reflection of our values and Mykonos culture.

  • Togetherness: Like Sofia and Ilias Ioannidis, the founding couple of the Belvedere, these seahorses symbolize enduring bonds, forever linked in harmony.
  • Characteristics: Intelligent, friendly, and peaceful, seahorses embody grace and strength, much like the experiences we strive to create for our guests.
  • Pair Bonding: Known for their lifelong partnerships, seahorses perform a courtship ritual involving a mesmerizing dance of connection—a metaphor for the shared moments we celebrate with our guests.
  • Inclusiveness: Designed to represent both male and female, the seahorses symbolize unity and inclusiveness, cornerstones of the Belvedere ethos.

Just as seahorses are inseparable from the sea, the Belvedere’s connection to the Aegean Sea and the island’s vibrant heritage inspires everything we offer. From Little Venice’s timeless allure to the winding alleys of Mykonos, every detail of our hotel reflects this magical backdrop.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Togetherness

This holiday season, we invite you to reflect on the spirit of togetherness and the beauty of shared moments. Whether you’ve been a guest once or many times, you are part of our family, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to Mykonos to create even more cherished memories.

From all of us at the Belvedere Hotel Mykonos, we wish you a joyful holiday season and a New Year filled with love, peace, and happiness.

Cheers to the next 100 years!

Warm regards,
The Belvedere Hotel Mykonos Family
