An extravagant host

In 1969, Sofia Ioannidou-Campanis, founder of the Belvedere Hotel, who had by now inherited Villa Stoupa, began renting it out. A year later, Italian American painter Piero Aversa arrived on the island and immediately fell in love with it. He rented the one-time summer residence of the Campanis family and quickly decided it would henceforth become his summer home. His enchanted sanctuary attracted some of the most famous personalities of his time, who either took up temporary residence as houseguests or were willing participants in bacchanalian suppers.
